Yesterday's market activity meant that leading equity indices in the US rose as S&P 500 ended the session at 4,076.6 after a 1.46% gain. Dow Jones gained 1.09% and closed at 34,100.
US markets are now currently closed and set to reopen today; meanwhile, European markets have no obvious direction. Asia-Pacific markets closed higher today whilst KOSPI Composite Index added 1.02% to trade at 2,449.8.
On a negative note, the market received some disappointing news as highly important Consumer Confidence data from United States beat analyst expectations of 109 with a reading of 107.1.
Today's rise takes place amid mixed market indicators — United States API Weekly Crude Oil Stock came out at 6.33 million, while a consensus of analysts was expecting -1,000,000. United States Chicago PMI (Jan) released yesterday at 14:45 UTC with a figure of 44.3, while the previous figure was 45.1.
Also worthy of note, today at 15:30 UTC data for United States Crude Oil Inventories will be released, with an expected decline to 376,000 from the preceding figure of 533,000. Friday data for United States Non Farm Payrolls will be released, with an expected decline to 185,000 from the preceding figure of 223,000.
Elsewhere, United States ADP Nonfarm Employment Change (Jan) is scheduled for today at 13:15 UTC.
While most assets did well yesterday, some did better than others as Vanguard Short-Term Corporate Bond ETF trades at $76.48 having gained 0.43%. IShares 1-5 Year Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF (up 0.377%) is also performing well.
